Dotted with optical filters, prisms and reflectors, this façade for the extension of a high school in Amsterdam talks to pupils about light in a playful and immersive way. The light dots bend, reflect and refract light in a dozen ways, each dot a demonstration in optics. There is even a dark glass filter to look safely at solar eclipses.
The wave like pattern on the façade adds another layer to the physics class; it symbolizes the dual nature of light, which behaves both as a particle and as a wave.
Each light disk snaps into a specially designed, injection molded mounting ring that clicks into the façade and the window screens.
